Boun Tai district located in the southeast of Phongsaly town, far from the province 50 km, Bountai have 65 villages, 6.201 families, population 28.000 people and eight tribes difference ethnic group around the district such as: Tai Lue 8,4 %, Phounoy 14,3 %, khamu 13,8 %, Akha 48,3%, Tai Yang 6,6%, Hmong 6,57%, Ho 1,1% and Bit 0,96%. Most of their villages are remote and up in the mountains, some of them creating a perfect trekking destination. Akha people practice spirit worship and several taboos are to be respected in their villages.
